Assets listed on a liquid stock market – this will mainly be the Australian Stock Exchange or the American stock exchanges.

What does the ATO say?

ATO guidelines are that listed investments are to be valued at market value annually.

TriSuper Auditors' recommendation

In most cases, market value will easily be obtained from the 30 June closing share price from the relevant Stock Exchange. The three main software platforms will provide automatic valuations.

Where it is not in Australian currency, it should be converted using the ATO’s 30 June exchange rate.
